Summary: It is the commercial brand of the Spanish consortium Ilsa/Trenitalia, which is made up of 55% Air Nostrum and 45% Trenitalia. This consortium was created in 2019 to bid on Lot 2 of Spain’s rail liberalization. The name “iryo” (in all lowercase) was unveiled on November 18, 2021, in Madrid. Rail operations began in the fall with the arrival of two Frecciarossa trains from Hitachi Rail in Spain for certification. Commercial service is expected to start in the second half of 2022.
