Infrastructure • Network concept
Définition succinte: According some definition, networks for transporting material or immaterial goods, or people, create a reticulated space polarised by points served (junctions, interchanges, stations, teleports, etc.) and linked by axes or clusters (motorways, railways, radio links, etc.). Networks can be classified according to their use, spatial area, mode and legal status. They can also be characterised by their form: mesh, polar, star or tree networks. Networks can be represented in the form of a graph, using points (poles, nodes or vertices) and arcs (or edges) to analyse different properties (topology): complexity and connectivity indices, local position indicators to measure the degree of centrality or accessibility, for example.
