Summary: Acronym for ‘Komfortabler Innovativer Spurtstarker S-Bahn-Zug’ – Comfortable and innovative commuter trains. KISS trains are double-decker electric multiple units from Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail. The trainsets are available in units of 2 to 8 on both UIC 1.435mm and wide gauge. Kiss trainsets can be optimised for platform heights of 550 and 760 mm. Stadler offers KISS 160 trainsets for regional traffic and KISS 200 trainsets for long-distance traffic (with a maximum speed of 200 km/h). It was this multiple unit, ordered for the first time by the SBB, that made Stadler a company of European and worldwide stature. These railcars compete with Alstom’s Coradia Stream and, to some extent, with Siemens’ Mireo and Desiro railcars.
