Summary:From 1997 onwards, Deutsche Bahn procured further new double-decker carriages from Görlitz. These vehicles were delivered in the new traffic red exterior colour scheme. The following types were included in this procurement programme, which ran from 1997 to 2000: DBpz752, DBpz752.1, DBpz752.5, DBpz752.6, DABpz757.5 and DABpz757.6. Deutsche Bahn initially deployed these six types in the regions of Northern Bavaria, Rhine-Moselle, Baden-Rheinpfalz, Württemberg, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

General overview
The DBpz752 et DABpz757 are double-deck passenger coaches (Doppelstockwagen) used by the German railway company Deutsche Bahn for regional trains. They are part of the 5th generation of DB double-deck coaches, built from 1997 onwards by Bombardier Transportation.
This series was designed without any driving‑trailer coach, unlike later versions. They are therefore incorporated into DB Regio’s RE services and hauled by a locomotive, even on short train formations. It was not until 2004, with the arrival of DBpbzfa766 and DABpbzfa766 driving‑trailer coach, that DB was able to form traction/push trains, which were more economically efficient. The livery adopted was Orient Red, which remains to this day the standard colour scheme applied by DB Regio to all its rolling stock.
These carriages have access doors between the bogies, allowing step-free boarding for low platforms. The lower vestibule is therefore shorter than the upper vestibule. The access stairs are located above the bogies.
A total of 215 coaches in six series were built between 1997 and 2000 and allocated across seven regions of Germany — though, surprisingly, not in the Ruhr nor in the Munich area. The DAB types feature a first‑class section on the upper deck. One distinctive aspect was that these sets were occasionally hauled by BR 143 locomotives from the former Deutsche Reichsbahn, generally on short RE services.

Technical details
The carbody shell was manufactured according to the principle of planar or shell construction. It is welded together from the pre‑fabricated, sheet‑clad main assemblies – underframe, side walls, end walls, roof, and upper‑deck floor. For the carbody framework, light‑gauge steel profiles of grades S 355 J2G3 (EN 10025) and S 355 N (EN 10113) are used. The carbody cladding consists of material of grade X2CrNi12.
For sound and thermal insulation, anti‑drumming material based on synthetic resin dispersion is applied, along with resin‑bonded, hydrophobised, trickle‑protected mineral wool. In addition, air‑layer insulation panels are used for the tubs, side and end walls up to the lower edge of the windows, and for the floor in the single‑deck area.
A divided draw gear, screw coupling and buffer housings were used. At each end of the coach there is a gangway connection equipped with a transition bridge and a rubber‑bellows seal.
These double‑deck coaches are fitted with an automatic, indirectly acting electro‑pneumatic compressed‑air disc brake with automatic load‑dependent braking, rapid‑brake accelerator, EP‑brake function and emergency‑brake override. In addition, a spindle handbrake in accordance with UIC 543 is provided. This handbrake, located at coach end 2, acts on both wheelsets of the bogie at end 2. The types DBpz752.5, DABpz757.5 and DABpz752.6 are also equipped with a magnetic track brake, enabling a maximum speed of 160 km/h.
